Ringwraith: Gauntlets

This is a closer view of the gauntlets I crafted for my Ringwraith costume.

For the individual finger lames, I used a plastic backing from ID cards which I had printed for a previous graphic design gig. They were perfect for bending and cutting into shape. For the rest of the gauntlet, I used cardboard and paper mache'd them into a basic shape. I then put everything together using cloth and hot glue. I used elastic banding and velcro to attach them to my leather gloves and forearm without ruining the gloves themselves. After a clever paintjob, I ended up with a pair of gauntlets that looked pretty damn good for something that ISN'T metal work. I mean, I'd love to study forging one day, but for the sake of a costume, I'll admit I'm insanely happy with these.

In order for my fingers to function better, I had to eventually remove some lames, otherwise I wouldn't be able to grasp my sword without worrying about a lame falling off (The hot glue could only hold on so much, even after etching into the plastic). During Halloween, I actually lost a few pieces due to overexcited people posing with me and trying to hold my hand. (Who holds a Ringwraith's hand? Honestly...)

So there you have it! Not bad for plastic and cardboard scraps creating the illusion of armour, yeah? Tell me what you think!
